Default How accurate is an ar 15?

How accurate is the typical ar 15 without modifications except a scope what kind of groups can you get at 350 yards? Pictures of your ar that you have and group pattern would be nice

350 yards is pushing it. In the army after 300 yards we have a dm with a ebr m14. A lightweight round will be hard to group at that distance.

Abc,

I do not have any pictures. But if you are talking about the varmint models for instance in the quality stainless 1:8 twists they are more accurate than the shooter. It is not a rarity to have a 1/4 to 1/2 inch 3 or 5 shot group at 100 yards. Of course that depends on the quality of the rifle and manufacturer. I have, when I am having a good day shot many 1.4 groups with my Rock River Arms 20" A-4 Varmint Rifle with Leupold 3.5X10 Scope on it. A good 16" barreled rifle can also produce 3/4 to 1 Inch group at 100 yards from the bench with little problem. Other than the wind has more of an effect, at 300 yards they shoot excessively accurately at that range. They shoot the National Match with them using the NM Style Rifles out to 600 Yards at Camp Perry.

500 yards with iron sights no problem! Did it for many years.

Maybe a 20" barrel? 14.5" barrel would be hard pressed to group.

The hardest part is getting your windage dialed in. Once you figure out that, it's a matter of applying the fundamentals of marksmanship. Trigger control, breathing are the big two. Jerk the trigger and your off by a foot!

No doubt. I think my issue would be telling if I hit or not. With a scope I have no doubt I could do it.

We had people in the pits putting 10 inch spotters on the targets so you can see where you hit. Old school! I think a spotter would be in order.
