Living in the north central part of the country we have a chain of stores named Mills Fleet Farm and they have introduced a firearm brand name "Huldra Arms".

Huldra Arms - Gas Piston Rifles

These are gas piston deisgn AR Style firearms. The rumor is that these are Adams Arms sold under the brand. Anyhow they offer 5.45 caliber complete firearms and uppers. I bought one of the 5.45X39 uppers and used a Spikes Tactical lower to build a rifle. It has a 16 inch barrel and carbine length gas system. So there are two suggestions for 20 inch barrels: Huldra and Adams Arms.

It turned out an OK shooter using Russian Wolf ammo but it absolutely requires a person install an extra strength hammer spring to ignite the hard Russian primers. I found out Hornady offers some domestically loaded ammo for this caliber but it appears they use Russian steel cases which means possibly the same hard primers. I have a couple of boxes of the Hornady ammo on order. I was hitting three hundred yard steel plates with no problem with the sixteen inch barrel so you may not need 20 inches however I do remember that CDNN offered an East German Border Guard bolt action rifle 20 years ago with a longer barrel and the guys I know who bought them liked them.

Hornady Manufacturing Company :: Search results

Then there is the magazine issue you are going to have with this caliber assuming you are going to build an AR rifle. They include a 30 round ASC 5.45 magazine with their rifles and you need them... I ordered ten followers from Rick at ASC and tried them in various other magazine bodies and none of them worked. I tried Lancer, Brownells, NHTMC and Magpul but none worked. I recently located some surlpus Canadian Orelite magazines and I plan to try one of those soon. I got the followers to fit in the aluminum mag bodies but then they bulged so as not to fit in the rifle magazine well. In the end I ordered two more additonal complete 30 round magazines from Rick. I like 20 round magazines because I use them when I go prone or shoot off the bench.

Anyhow this is a pretty nice little caliber and reasonably accurate even with the Russian ammo. Hope this helps you out a little and good luck!

i already had one in 5.45x39, forget what u read on the net about it, its a very nice plinking round and no matter how hot i got this barrel it never shot a groupe larger than 2" off my sholder with that red dot.

i just want to build some thing new i guess, and mags arent hard to find. also if u mod the follower in a 20rd pmag u can get them to feed 20 rounds of 5.45,, i know this cause i have done it.

here is the one i use to have.

It's not a rumor (kindergarten cop style, it's not a tumor). There's a huge thread on this on another forum.

I guess I'm confused, . You have had one in the past yet you want to do it because you want to do something new? lol.

So what happens when the ammo dries up? Give the O another term and I see some crazy stuff happening.

Edit: where did you get that rail?

Where do you think that thread is? Most likely in the AK section because that is basically what it is.

I would agree with mjkeat that ammo may be an issue in the future. Right now Fleet Farm offers a Russian military sardine can with 1,080 rounds for $99. Then they sell the Wolf stuff for $6.00 for 30. Hormady offers the ballistic tip for $28/50 rounds. My answer would be to stock-up now. I still like the round and if it goes away so be it.

the ammo is not going any where. there are far more sorces for ammo just sence i sold that rifle.

i want the 20" barrel so that it will bring the vocity close to 5.56, and its cheap to shoot.

i just want to start a new build. i do that alot.

thats an LWRC rail mid length.

the two thumb screws at the muzzle end are to remove the upper rail only so that u can service the gas system
LWRC International LLC - MkII-B ARM-R Rail - Midlength

Wait and see what happens if there's any more import regulations put into effect. It may not happen but take into consideration our socialist pres.

I figured as much. looked just like the original rail on my LWRC. They are nice, just not long enough for where I went w/ it.
