Why not just keep a handgun holstered on your side? You'd probably have a better chance of hitting a hog in a panic situation.

Yeah, I'm not seeing where having a weaker, handgun on a longer platform is going to help you any more in a close -up hog situation. you would still effectivly have to point the rifle at it, and if doing that why not hit it with the higher energy round?

Yea ....il. sucks for gun laws...that's why I plan on hunting hog elsewhere.......I actually got the idea from a copy of BOOK OF THE AR-15....they had a sawed off shotgun mounted to an AR....thought it would be practical for hogs....

But a short barreled shotgun is not in the same league as a .40 or .45 pistol when it comes to power for up close work on a wild animal. I could almost see it for a shotgun, but see no practical use for employing a pistol in that configuration in that scenario.
