I would do the research for myself instead of relying on others to provide links.

What level of competition? Informal? Amateur? Professional? Three gun? Truthfully, if I were to want an AR for competition, and serious competition level, and wasn't extremely well versed in the AR platform, I'd contract a local gunsmith who is experienced in them to do it, rather than doing so myself.
I can work on my car, but I'm not about to attempt to build a NASCAR and race it, either.

Your question is a bit broad. I suggest more research. Check out 3 gun nation.

This is such a common issue, too many new to the platform don't want to do the research, instead they expect someone else to tell them what to buy then six months later figure out they bought the wrong thing. What's right for one person isn't necessarily right for another.
And the real kicker: research is a lot of the fun of building or buying an AR. Most people who do it end up building a custom rifle instead of just anything off the shelf or a cheap kit.

I've done a ton of research, on this site and several others. The one thing I've learned? The more I read the dumber I feel. You answer one question and get five more.

WELL off the top of my head.....
I'd recommend a JP Enterprises SCR-11 with LMOS BCG & adjustible gas block, Ares Armor Effin-A compensator, Geiselle SD3G trigger, Schmit Bender 1-8x Zenith scope with LaRue mount, Trijcon RMR RM07 on a 45 degree offset mount, Magpul UBR, Vltor A5 with Endyne hydraulic buffer to prevent carrier tilt. This will be one sweet compretition rifle. Just don't pay retail, what ever you do, don't pay retail.
We will be asking for the requisite gun porn. kkthxbibi.
