Welcome to the site!
Like Quentin said read the sticky on AR's. especially the gas system section.
Since we use 16 inch barrels in the civilian world a military lenght carbine gas system will be overgassed.,
16 inch barrell and carbione gas system still works fine and relaibe nearly all of the time.

But the mid lenght gas system is the more proper choice and since u are building form scratch you control all parts so might as well go w/ that.
More in the stickies.

: )

Glad you got the LBK from PSA so quick, 11B, nice to get the lower done (and done right with quality parts)!

Back to building the upper receiver group yourself or buying the URG, I'd go the latter unless you're determined to do all the assembly yourself. Really that doesn't matter, what matters is choosing the right components that go into the URG and I've always been able to find exactly what I want from PSA, BCM and Daniel Defense. I was able to find URGs factory built to my exact specs so why bother to assemble the upper myself. Up to you of course.

Myself, I prefer a 16" pencil barreled midlength upper. Chrome lined barrel, 1:7" twist. Full auto/M16 BCG from BCM, DD, PSA or other milspec unit.

What is the benefit of a full auto/M16 BCG on a semi auto AR15?

If the BCG can handle full auto, it should be nearly indestructible in a semi-automatic.

There is also a disadvantage.
extra weight.
BCGs generally dont break anyway.

And adding a full auto BCG to a rifle that already has heavy buffer may be the straw that gets it to experience cycling problems with weaker ammo such as many 223 rounds.

The main reason is the M16 BCGs tend to be truly milspec which often isn't true of the AR-15 or modified AR-15 versions. You might as well get one that's built right. Here's what BCM says about their BCG. Try to get that kind of information out of the comspec AR makers.

BCM Bolt Carrier Group Features

•Milspec Carpenter No. 158® steel
•HPT Bolt (High Pressure Tested/ Proof)
•MPI Bolt (Magnetic Particle Inspected)
•Shot Peened Bolt
•Chrome Lined Carrier (M16/AUTO)
•Chrome Lined Gas Key
•Gas Key Hardened to USGI Specifications
•Grade 8 Hardened Fasteners
•Key Staked Per Mil-Spec
•Tool Steel Extractor
•BCM Extractor Spring
•Black Extractor Insert
•Mil-Spec Crane O-Ring (optional)

I would also consider looking for anything made by Spikes Tactical. I got a complete upper w/ BCG and CH for $525 in January. Very satisfied.
