you can do is a PSA build
. Excellent parts at prices that nobody else is willing to compete with (without severely sacrificing quality).
But as a newbie you may be apprehensive about building (that's normal, but building is really easy). If you want a great rifle at a great price, I like this one
for $800. After shipping and transfer fees, you're probably out about $860. It's still a great rifle for that price. Per my tastes, I would upgrade the handguard, stock, trigger guard, and maybe grip...in that order. Those upgrades can cost $100 total or $400+, depending on your tastes. But it's a good rifle with an excellent barrel/BCG as-is, and is worthy of future investment.
A PSA build would also be worthy of investment. They often have rifles that are pretty well identical to that $800 Spike's for $900-1000, but include a $400 Aimpoint or EoTech optic. Impossible deal to beat in my opinion.
I'm not aware of any other rifles that can compare with regard to quality at that price. Both Spike's and PSA offer excellent quality at very fair prices.
