Default Feeding issues

So this is my first attempt at building an AR. Only did the lower. Went out the first time this weekend, and was having trouble with it. Started off it wouldn't chamber a round. Came to realize that that my mag wasn't sitting in all the way. I'd push it in, and it'd slide out. I'd have to hold the mag in just to keep it cycling. I'm thinking it might be the mags I bought, because when I had my lower assembled, I tested the catch by putting in one of them, and it pulled out without any pressure and without the release. I tried again after I tested it, and when I took the upper off, the mag slid in and locked perfectly. Any ideas?

Could be mags like you stated. What kind are they?

Is the mag catch screwed into the button far enough?

They're Rock Island. Cheap plastic ones I got off cheaper than dirt.
I gave my mag catch another couple screws and they seem to work fine now. Thanks for the tip. I probably should have thought of that:

No problem. Glad you got it sorted out. Grab a few Magpul P-Mags when you get a chance. They are good quality polymer mags at a good price. Now is the time to buy, stuff is cheap.
