Default Fact or Fiction?

I've heard this rumor about the M4 and M16: If you place the bolt carrier group bolt-down on a table and the weight of bolt carrier group is able to push the bolt into the locked position, the extractor spring needs to be replaced.

True or not?

No, not true. a well lubricated and slightly worn M16 will do that, yet be in perfect operating condition. The extractor spring has nothing to do with it.

The extractor spring has nothing to do with it. The gas rings are the only hang up. They rarely wear out.
