I gave in and bought a 512, $399 at Sportsmans Warehouse. Since I have not had a RDS before, I'm not sure if I want absolute cowitness or lower 3rd. I'm thinking about getting a riser to try both on my next range trip. Does anyone know what height I would need? I'm using a Magpul MBUS with A2
front.

My EOtech 512 was absolute cowitness out of the box, with no riser. I prefer absolute cowitness. I think a 1/2 riser would be needed for lower 1/3 cowitness. The 512 is kinda big and IMO looked strange on a riser.

Purchase the riser specifically for the EoTech. Don't mess around w/ that other junk.

With no experience whatsoever, knowing only what each are, I would prefer 1/3, less clutter in your sights.

I don't use 1/3 cowitness, so I am asking... Do you have to zero the RDS and the iron sights separately?

I use absolute and zeroing could be done in my den. I can also quickly verify if anything changes. And with both eyes open using the RDS, I don't find the front sights to be a distraction at all.
