Dream AR-10
Looking to build a dream AR-10 sniper!
No idea what companies to look at.
Would like it to be in FDE or some cammo finish. I am on a waiting list for a SCAR-17 but I think we can build an AR-10 just as nice for half of $3,000 !!! Will decide on a scope later. |

18" is the ideal length for .308. Look into a Noveske barrel.
You can have whatever you end up w/ hydro dipped so color shouldnt be a huge deal breaker. UBR or PRS would make a great stock. Troy, Centurian Arms or DD rails are the best. And I agree on skipping the rails at 3 and 9 oclock. Bipod - Harris w/ built in mount from Larue Tactical. |
Dog2000 it looks like i need to move... some place outside of CA... =)
The first thing i need to start with is the lower to get my FFA or DROS or whatever it's called started. (10 day waiting period) thanks CA!!! (again) It doesn't look like SPIKES has an AR-10 lower... I just need to name some brands to get my FFL dealer started. RRA won't give a warranty on an AR-10 lower in CA (thanks again CA) and now I'm all out of brands that I know. |
Go to the Armalite site and see what they got................

Oh Brother!!!
There is OH SO MUCH to learn about this platform before you go shedding that kind of lettuce. If you buy the SCAR-17 expecting a "sniper quality rifle" I am afraid I am going to have to put you in time out as you have blown over a month's pay for a lot of members on this forum and you made a HUGE mistake. I need you to define the following for me so that we can help you: Precision - Accuracy - Sniper Caliber Rifle - Shiny Kit Syndrome - With those answers, we can help. In the AR10 rifle you will have 2 ways to go - Armalite or DPMS. They are proprietary and not compatible like AR15's. Here's a few AR10 receiver sets to get you started,
Mega Arms - great stuff and a great price for the quality - Mega Arms :: Component Catalog JD Machine - again, very good stuff - JD Machine Tech, Inc. - San Diego, CA Iron Ridge - very, very good stuff but very, very pricey - IRA-X-Rifle-System - The Premier Class II & III Gunsmith for LEO and Civilians - Transfers, Machining and Coating There are a host of others that make AR10 lowers but those are three in a broad spectrum of price. More and more manufacturers are getting on board with AR10 components but it's not like shopping around and getting and AR15 for $750. You are looking at $1200+ easy for a decent MOA rifle. Kick it into the $2k + range and you will have an excellent rifle. After that it precision/accuracy would most likely depend on ammo quality, optics and the shooters ability and dedication to practice. |
