Custom Built Arms poor customer service experience
I purchased my first 308 AR build 80% raw lower, and assembled black anodized upper from them through the website because of their low prices and 7075 construction. There were a few problems with the standard DPMS lower parts kit. The bolt catch does not function without modification, the upper receiver prevents the bolt catch from functioning without removing about 1mm from the side of the bolt catch that contacts the inner edge of the upper receiver. The hole for the selector detent was wrong, drilled for the size of the smaller pivot and takedown pin detent pins. The hole for the mag release pin is too large by quite a bit, have not measured it, but the pin flops around in the hole quite a bit, casing an intermittent malfunction of the mag release.
The lower has a lot of sharp corners that don't lend themselves to paint that won't immediately wear off. The pivot pin lugs don't lend themselves to adequate clearance for a free float barrel nut, and don't allow the upper to hinge more than about 25º before the nut contacts the lower and does damage. The front of the mag well is over 3/8" thick and could have a lot of material removed.
The big problem occurred when I went to purchase a second 308 lower. Their website listed it in stock, I paid for the part, ten working days later, no part, no reply to messages, no phone support. When I asked for a tracking number or a refund, they assured me the refund was approved, and would be in my account within 3-5 working days. 6 working days later, no refund, no reply to emails. I have disputed the charge with my bank, and won't be doing business with them again, ever.
