Custom Builder question

Hello All:

I have decided to have me a custom tactical AR15 built from someone like LaRue Tactical or Zel Custom. Can anyone provide me any thought on customer builders.

I am looking at 1/2 moa @100, 20in, psuedo-sniper version with rail option to take various optic solutions.

How about you hit up the Introductions page, I think you might get a few more hits on your page after you do that. Welcome btw. :)

Hello All

Hi All. I have posted an introduction. Sorry if I violated etiquet.

Welcome, and just stand by, the answers will come shortly. In the mean time you may want to read some of the sticky threads on the AR builds. A lot of good information is available there to get you started.

Welcome to the World of the AR-15.

LaRue Tactical is building some sweet rigs right now. I recently ordered one of their AR-10's for a customer in the shop and the wait was something like 5 to 6 months. Serious backlog do to heavy interest.

You can build one, build part of one or have the whole thing built.

One thing I would look into, is buying a complete Stealth Upper from LaRue and piecing together a good lower. It will be cheaper and you will still get the performance you are looking for in the completed piece.

Thanks

Thanks I have actually seriously considered that option. Getting a preban lower (I am returning to NY state which has some funky post ban rules) sticking some nice furniture on it and the La Rue 20" Stealth package.

Any thoughts on that option.

Build it yourself, it's cathartic! At least build the lower.

I got this billet for $175! There's great deals out there and it's fun to do!

I would definitely build the lower to my specs and order the Stealth Upper if you want to do it nice and easy and get an accuracy guarantee.

I have built several and they all shoot well, but if it's your first time & you can afford it, you are going to be hard pressed to find a better upper package. The Larue stuff is really well made and their owner stands behind every product they sell.

But at least build the lower. It's going to be cheaper and you will gain a TON of knowledge about how the weapon works, which means you will know better how to maintain it.

Thanks I am leaning in that direction. Being ARMY, I have a pretty good idea on how to maintain it and like the idea of creating my own lower. I biggest reason I posted to see if there was any benefit (outside of having a total weapon with an engineer accuracy guarantee) to going total custom and not doing any of it myself.

You've gotten some good advice so far. The LaRue Stealth flat out rocks. My partner has the 20" and it easily does 1/2MOA. Their Stealth lower is beefier than a standard lower, but if you might go back to NY just build the Stealth upper/pre-ban lower and you will be GTG.
