Default confusing

Is a 20" barrel considered a rifle or carbine? Gas tubes are listed not in length but carbine or rifle.

Generally a 20" is a rifle and anything shorter (16 or 14.5") is a carbine. Anything longer than 20" is also a rifle and uses the same gas tube.
