Colt SP 6940?
 

Looking to buy my 1st AR, I'm ignorant to AR's so I'm looking to buy a complete rifle. The colt SP 6940 has caught my eye. Is this a good 1st AR purchase for me? Pros/cons? Any other suggestions? I linked the gun below. Thank you for any help.

I have the Colt LE6940 (Law Enforcement version) and it's a great gun.

I feed it everything and it has not given me a bit of heart-burn!

TWELVE-HUNDRED-DOLLARS! that seems a bit excessive. Any reason it's so much other than its Colt?

I have a Colt Gov't Carbine (don't remember the # designation). Light weight barrel will shoot 3/4" groups with good ammo. Thousands of rounds through it will nary a hiccup. $1200 is about right for a Colt. Bite the bullet and ride the pony.

I'm just looking for a solid gun that I can learn from, inside and out. My buddy was in the military and he said, at least he thought he had a colt. So I figured if the military used a colt that must mean something. In the future I plan to build a couple if these, I just want to educate myself first. After further review I think I may go with the 6920 though, I'm thinking I want to stay away from the one piece upper. Thanks for all your help.

Ah good, I see you linked to the SP6920. Was going to say the SP versions are cheaper than LE and the only real difference is no LE "only" markings.

I'm w/ Q on this one. The SP is a good choice. The LE marked lower would be cool being that they are not going to produce them any longer, but...

I was choosing between the SP 6920 and the SP 6940, no LE option for me.

Yeah I agree that would be cool to have a "LE only" lower! I have a few magazines marked that way but no actual firearms. Anyway no big deal for most of us, except maybe in a ban state.

Ah, yes sorry - I was thinking of Cane's LE6940 earlier in the thread...
