Colt Question

I've occasionally seen Colt AR-15s with the M4 Carbine roll mark. Does this happen often or is it a mistake at the factory. Also, are they rare and do they command a premium?

Over the last year or so Colt has marked their 6920 as LE6920, SP6920 and M4 Carbine. The rifle itself is the same except for accessories such as stock and rear sight. I don't know which one is more rare today but if there is no new ban I'd expect the LE version will become harder to find.

Thanks Quentin. I'm really curious about this. So the LE marked don't seem to pop up as much as the M4 marked?

The le marked (I'm assuming) are sold to police officers at a discount. (Atleast in my experience with S&W). I've seen cops get busted for purchasing and reselling le guns for profit. Many companies have caught on and limited their purchases to avoid this. If you could buy only 1 $1200 rifle at $600 when nobody else can get them, would you sell it?

Most of the 6920s I've seen over the last few years were the LE version. I saw one in a Walmart last Dec the day after Sandy Hook. I really can't say what turns up most in stores across the USA now but there is no reason for Colt to mark them as law enforcement only and they started a big push 18 months ago (or so) to sell the sport version, SP6920. The M4 version seems recent but again I can't say for sure what's most popular now. If I were buying one I'd rather have the M4 markings.

Not sure how I'd feel about that......like putting a v8 tag on my trunk and having a 4 cly under the hood.....totally false advertising :p

I jest, I'd love to have a M4 rollmark. Get it! Get it NOW!!!

Thanks guys! I'm relatively new to the AR world. What would be a good price for a NIB M4 roll marked 6920 with the removable carrying handle?

Quentin 04-12-2013 05:08 PM

Probably $1100 if you can find one. That's about what the 6920 was selling for at Walmart. It's getting harder to find them with the carry handle these days too.

Everyone should have a V8 in their trunk!

I will admit one of the reasons I bought the Colt over the S&W tactical .22lr was because it's roll marked Colt M4. :D

Quentin, I have a S&W M&P15-22 MOE. You're saying Colt makes a similar rifle? I got mine in 2010, I looked at a lot of .22s and didn't see a colt purpose built rifle, just uppers.

Did Wal-Mart's price include the carry handle and was it M4 roll marked? I've never seen a Colt AR or any AR at Wal-Mart(Florida). Thanks for the help Quentin.
