Perhaps I missed it in the other thread that was spoken of, but I would assume we should ask what purposes the optic will serve? Is this a 500 yard rifle, or <100 yard rife? Is there a particular budget range, or is money no object? I have absolutely nothing against any of the suggested items thus far, with the exception of they are all a bit pricey and without knowing what the OP intends to use it for any of them could be a less than perfect solution. I like the looks and feel of the EOTech XPS, and I've always been an ACOG fan. But his personal use dictates what optic we should recommend for him to research.
So, OP, what is the purpose of the rifle and is there a budget you'd like to stay within?

Use would be for <250 yrds. Wanted to bust some yotes but also have close-up use if it ever comes to shtf.

If you intend to shoot at 250 yards, a magnifying optic is really gonna help for moving targets or less than ideal shooting positions. I think at least 4X for 250 yards and something closer to 6X is probably better. Of course, more is better, but the higher the magnification the more restricted your field of view becomes. For 150 yards or less, an Aimpoint or EoTech is probably more advantageous. Hitting targets at 200+ yards is entirely doable with iron sights, but it requires good vision and lots of practice.
Based on what you stated a 1-6/7/8 variable power magnifying optic will probably serve you well.

Yea you'll likely need some decent magnification. I use an inexpensive (for the time being anyway) no brand that has 4x mag and 3 color recticle currently. It also has a backup on top of the optic itself. It's pretty close to spot on if you tweak it, but it would be a backup only for any purposes. I dunno about you but my eyesight has declined over the years, and I just don't have any love for iron sights.

Well, I went with an ACOG TA-11F, it arrives tomorrow. I believe it'll serve my needs.
Appreciate all the responses

Apparently, money wasn't much of an object!
That would be my first choice anyday if I had a grand laying around collecting dust

That's all my rat money gone now!
I've always tried to get the best I could afford, that way a year from now I'm not wanting to trade & end up with 2 or take a bath selling the first one...

Better to spend a thou once than a few hundred numerous times.
You will never regret getting the ACOG. I have three of them.

To remove the carry handle, do you turn the 2 large knurled-edge bolts or the phillips head screws that I see are recessed in those large bolts?
Never mind, it's the 2 large ones..they were torqued down pretty well
