clip = slang for a magazine
magazine = proper terminology for a spring-loaded cartridge well feeding a semi-auto rifle or pistol.

There actually is such a thing as a clip, which is used by the military for loading magazines. But few people have ever seen a real clip, or clip attachments which marries the clip with the magazine.

Yes again.

I found a very cool cut away video of how the enbloc works in an M1. Check out you tube and see if you can find it, otherwise I'll see if I can link it up this afternoon.

According to stores seen and read the zippo light was used to simulate the sound of the M1 out of ammo.

Former Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, once said about defining pornography...

"I may not be able to intelligibly do so, but I know it when I see it"

That same phrase ( for me anyway) applies when trying to define, or in this case articulate the difference between a clip or magazine.

The ping from the empty clip from the garand was so loud that the enemy caught on and knew whenever they heard the ping that the gun was empty, thus leaving our soldiers vulnerable to rush attacks.Sooooo, our guys thought of a smart solution. They would stop shooting for a second, simulate the loud PING from an empty garand, then when the enemy rushed to ambush, our guys would mow them down.

I dont understand the M1 "ping" stories.... The ping isnt really that loud, Ive done some experimentation when I had a M1.. After a few rds. of .30-06 the ringing in your ears is louder than the clip... and if your far enough away your ears dont ring from the rds. you cant really hear the clip.... I just dont see after a few M1s each shooting 8rds. of .30-06 how your gonna hear a little ping...
