I've sonic cleaned mine with mean green and hot water. NEVER been cleaner!!!

I also heat treated it with Militec, I suggest everybody do it. It really makes the action smoother, and improves reliability.

The water has to be good and hot, but it will never be cleaner.

ill have to try that. commet works real good. wet, splash commet on, scrub with brush, dry. You wont even need to oil it after.

I have an AR I refuse to clean, just because I want to see how nasty it will get before it gives me problems.

My other rifles get CLP and Hoppes.

how many rounds you got through through ar, and what kind of ar? what kind of treatment you give it?

I've used Dawn and hot water.

Comet is abrasive so I'm not sure that doing it regularly is a good idea. Simple green and similar degreasers should be used with caution on aluminum parts. According to the manufacturer it can damage aluminum and anodizing.

Hot water alone will get it done.

Ya- I thought I would do the same thing with my new car to keep the engine clean. At the first oil change I dumped a half can of Comet in the crankcase. It should leave the internals of my car bright and shiny, with no buildup of carbon or gunk. I mean, if it works for the frying pan, why not? Frying pan and engine both metal, hot.

It worked so good I think I will sprinkle some in my computer to clean up some of those viruses I keep reading about. It says on the can that it will kill 99.8% of all bacteria and viruses. I'll take care of that when I get back from the dealer- something in my car is making funny noises.

For those of you that flunked Sarcasm 101, the above IS tongue in check. I would not reccomend using an abrasive cleaner on ANY precision piece of machinery. It IS my opinion that a lot of guns get overcleaned and over lubed.

On Saturday I was looking at a nice old Parker side by side- the stock as been ruined by excessive oil in the action draining down into the stock right behind the tang. Wood has sucked up oil into the end grain, and softened. Has began splitting at the tang. $1000 shotgun killed with a $1.29 can of 3-in-1 oil.
