I don't shoot too much expensive stuff, but I do on occasions. I plan on taking the 16" out to 300+ yards and the 20" out to 500+ yards. I've chatted with a few metallurgist and done a good amount of research and thats why I wanted to go with 4150 CMV chrome lined bore and chamber. I haven't looked too much into the melonite finish, but I will look into it. I want something accurate and reliable. I've heard stainless is supposed to more accurate, but I've also heard operators using BCM barrels and DD barrels shoot some pretty tight groups.

Any idea what you want for a twist rate ? That will narrow down some of your choices out there . Personally if I was going to build a precision build I would be looking at a 1:9 stainless , but since you want something a little harder that will last longer I would say go without a a treated barrel ,then melonite with chrome being my last choice for a precision build

How much are you shooting at one time?
How many shots will be fired before cleaning occurs?
How will the barrel be maintained?
What accuracy level are we talking about?

Exactly what about 4150CMV is right for you...or why is it a must? You need to remember 4150CMV has a potencial fatal flaw in it... Done wrong its an accident waiting to shread your arm into pieces. This is even after it's been MPI tested. If you are not willing to pay top dollar for a 4150CMV barrel from FN or Colt, I wouldnt do it. Period. I dont care who else is making and selling them unless they also provide a print out of the mil-b-11595e testing report. END OF STORY... Without that report, in my hand, with the barrel..do not pass go, do not collect $200.

I would go with 4140CM Melonite treatment over 4150CMV anyday...even a Colt or FN one. Look at CMMG( <- now hot) or S&W
Looks like S&W doesnt sell the barrels alone. The only ones they Melonite QPQ treat are the higher end ones as seen in their catalog HERE starting on page 21 with the M&P15T #811041. So look to buying their full line upper for the upgraded barrel.

Thanks for the safety warning, I didn't know that. I have looked into FN barrels on spikes site, but what bravo company barrels? Where can I get a S&W barrel?
