If you want the biggest possible in a standard 5.56 lowered AR-15 I think its the 50 Beowulf

5.56____458 SOCOM___50 Beowulf

You probly wont see 44mags, 460, or 500 chambered AR's because the boltface diameter is too small to work with the large rimmed case. You'd have to open the bolt face out into the locking lugs...probably not a real good idea.
-----
The 450 Bushmaster, 458 SOCOM, and 50 Beowulf all use a .473 case head diameter to work with a 7.62X39 AR bolt but they get there different ways.

The 458 SOCOM, and 50 Beowulf basically use lengthened 50AE pistol cases that have had the rim rebated(cut down) to .473

The 450 bushmaster cases can be made by shortening 284 winchester cases.
284 win cases already have a rim diameter of .473.

284 Win___450 BM___5.56
-----

I really think the 458 SOCOM is a good choice. Nice design, wide selection of .458 rifle bullets and seems like reloading components might be more readily available than the others.

The 450 Bushmaster is also interesting using .45 cal pistol bullets and cases that can be made by shortening/sizing 284 winchester or 6.5-284 brass. Good if supply of 450 BM brass dries up or is too expensive

The 50 Beowulf is a beast, but less popular than the others. Components may be harder to find in the future. Currently $58 to $67 per100, but out of stock everywhere I've looked.
only problem with the .50 based rounds is there is not a whole lot of hunting bullets for the .50 diameter. the .458 has tons of bullet options with years of research and development around the .458 for hunting especially int he 300-350 grn range. i use a 458lott/winmag for a lot of hunting using bullets in the 300-350 grn range on things from coyote to moose. im working on a lower for the .458 socom but nothing as fancy as what cane is doing.

nothing says HELLO!! like a .45

Last parts ordered and in-bound!

RRA is busy and said it may take 5-7 days to process, I hope that's a canned response!

WooHoo!

I found this video that provides a quick refresher on assembling a lower. (Installing a LPK for dummies.)

For those of you that think building an AR (I should say a lower, the upper is much more involved!) is going to be a big job, take a look at this video;

The Range Bag - LPK installation

I like Magnum P*I*G!!

And I want to see said monster when it's field ready, you lowly sidewinder.

For all we know, this is another sham like your .460 Build and it will be July 2012 before you even wrap your forked tongue around it.
