Buffer Tube Questions

1 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone I recently ordered a new buffer tube and when I opened it up and compared to the one that was on my gun I realized it didn't have a notch cut in it for the detent to hold it in place. My question is will I need to make my own notch in it? Thanks for any help.

It still locks into place on the bottom channel cut into the threads but is this right?

You won't need to cut a notch. Your tube holds your buffer detent down.

Back it off a bit so it sits on the rim of that detent. It should hold the detent in place, but not depress it all the way down.

The buffer tube that the lower came with has a grove that the detent sits in nicely, but it doesn't matter just as long as the buffer tube sits on the edge of the detent and the buffer tube but is tightened good.

I prefer the last picture to the one above it. The notch allows another turn and you can see the top of the tube can catch on the BCG when pivoting the receivers. Also the notched tube looks like a cheaper commercial model. The unnotched tube is milspec.

Both tubes are commercial spec. The one that has the notch that sits around the detent is the one that came with the New Frontier lower. I ordered the other one to put a magpul stock on, and for a back up I guess.

The unnotched tube sure looks like it has raised threads like a milspec.

The Magpul stock wouldn't fit the original tube?

Yea it fit but the new tube has a nicer finish on it then the new frontier one. I also figured that having any backup parts isn't the worst idea.
