Best trigger option.

So I'm thinking of at least getting some parts in this too naked stripped lower I have in the safe. What ever final configuration choices I make I want a nice shooting target AR. So for an upgraded trigger should I go with the Rock River Arms National Match Two Stage Trigger. Or get a drop in like the Timney or McCormick units? At least twice as much for a drop in.

What are the pros and cons of the choices?

What kind of AR are you building Jo?

Because if it's just a 16" target shooter or SHTF rifle, I think you can save the money and just google the "15 minute trigger job" and do it yourself.

Now, if you are building a 20" varminter ( or "S" word style ) then I would go with the RRA 2-Stage. I have one and I love it.

PM slowrdy45 - He knows a place to get an almost identical knock off version of the RRA 2-Stage for like $70-$75. Something like that.

Haven't seen Slo around for a LONG time. PM'd him recently.

He belongs to like a dozen forums. He only stops by here for the AR stuff....

Jo,I'd just go with the RRA. I have 3 of them, for general shooting they are hard to beat.
Why spend twice the money and really not get a much better trigger?

I am going to go with a 20" shooter. But I may check out the trigger job for my 16"shtf stick. Thanks JD.

My real decision is do I want to spend twice as much on ammo with a 6.8 upper. Will extra recoil of a 6.8 affect the lighter triggers I'm looking at?

Dillinger 05-17-2010 11:58 PM

Unless you are trying to tune a 2 oz trigger or something Jo, I highly doubt the added recoil from the 6.8 is going to be a factor.

You have to factor in most of that recoil is going to be handled by the buffer and spring, it's not like the bolt will be hammering back on the poor lonely trigger group all by itself. :p

For a long range shooter, I would definitely go with the RRA 2 Stage. It's a sweet trigger and it shoots like a dream.

Going with a really pricey one like a Gisielle or something crazy like one of Dave Lauck's customs is going to give you bragging rights, but it's probably going to shoot about 10% better for 3 times the price.

I hope you plan on posting some pictures and details of the build.

I like what I'm hearing. I was afraid I was going to be breaking out big coin just on the trigger.

Oh and we don't brag about our ARs in Cali. We just quietly stack them up in the safe.:D

LOL - That's right, you are behind enemy lines, I forgot about that.

Okay, well just PM me the photos and the stats so I can live vicariously through your build. :p

personally I vote for the Timiney but I only say that because I have one on My AR and love it.
