Vortex strikefire.

Vortex Sparc you can find it for $ 149 to $ 199 great warranty and holds zero

On a budget I recommend the Vortex line mentioned above, or Primary Arms, or if you can find a Bushnell Holosight on the used market. The Holosights are made by L3 for Bushnell. So it's the same people that make the Eotech. It just is an older version without the military features.

But since you asked about the "best" red dot you could drop $500-800 on an AimPoint. Or less if you look at used comp M2s or their new PRO that is made more with the civilian market in mind for around $350. Then you would have what is arguably the toughest red dot with the highest battery life on the market. The down side is the initial cost. The up sides are that it is a sight that will last the longest and actually retain value if you do get rid of it.

You could also try tru-glo

And you should also remember that you get what you pay for.

"If you want fresh, clean oats, you must pay a fair price. If you're willing to accept oats that have made a trip through the horse, you can get a bargain."

Best RDS? You're gonna pay for that.

Why not spell out your application and see if a value model will do the job.

Are you running absolute our lower 1/3?
Which riser you using?
How many shots have you held zero with that setup?

I've thought about picking up this red dot as a backup.

I have two TRS-25s using the UTG RS10S3 mount which gives a bottom 1/3 cowitness. Really didn't expect much out of the mount except a $10 solution until I found something better. But it's solid yet comes off fast if needed. Goes back on fast and returns to zero. Never upgraded them because they work and just bought a third mount. Waiting to get another TRS-25 too.

I'll let JTJ have his say too but for me this RDS/mount has held zero fine with 5.56 and .22lr. Very pleased. UTG has a shorter version of this mount for absolute cowitness.
