DPMS or Bushmaster are about the most affordable.

but if you are on a budget, there is nothing wrong with the sport. They left off some of the non-essentials but it is well made accurate and reliable

The M&P Sport is the best AR for under $850. Very accurate, and mine ate steel right out of the box.

If you are on a budget buy the Sport, or build one. Keep an eye out for used AR's as well.

I'd say PSA is the best at the <$800 range. You can get it real close to $700 with sales.

I have the Sport model and it was a steal at $650 (tax included) at the local sporting goods store. I've found them on the web for even less, as low as $550, but supplies don't seem to last too long from what I read on the various gun sites.

I paid $699+tax for this one not to long ago. Its a fine carbine made by a often overlooked company IMHO.
