From all of the comments what I have learned most is just that. To each his own! There are so many brands and most of them are probably sufficient. Ill just have to buy and find out. If I didn't spend my money on a gun, I'd spend it on something less useful. So what the hell. I went with their 80% kit that included a jig for $200. Not a bad deal from what i have seen. Jigs run just as much as the lower. Its my first gun, so I can expect to learn what I like and don't like. Eventually I will develop my own opinions like you all. As soon as I get my stuff ill begin a new thread with the build process.

My first, but I can tell its not the best quality. At least the jig is not. As far as I can tell the lower is just fine. The only thing about the jig is, the hole for the fire selector is only on one side... sooo, I guess I'm supposed to drill through the jig??? But to clear the slate for Ares, they were very helpful, kept up email contact with me the ENTIRE time. And on top of all that, my lower got here two days early. Took less than a week to receive it.

Yep, like I said befor ARES has had a change in management.p, also there's been ample time since the panic for them to catch up. I recommend polishing up your receiver a bit before and after you mill it if finish is important to you. Betcha you're already thiking of your next build!

Hell yeah I am! And that's a good idea I will do that. As far as the hole for fire selector goes, I'm using the side of the jig with the hole as a template to drill a hole in the other side. I'm afraid if I try to drill all the way from one side I will get off course

One hole down... not bad for just using a hand drill.

Nice little write up, about a guy, his receiver and some hand tools.

Seen it =) I'm pretty confident working without a mill or anything because from all the forums I have learned it does not need to be perfect. Its not pressurized and as long as everything fits snug, you will never see the inside so who cares! I'm definitely going to try and make it as pretty as possible. What I'm doing is finishing everything about 97% with power tools, then finishing with a hand file. That way I can remove material very slowly and provide for a nice finish.

Tactical Maching makes 100% lowers with serial numbers also. I believe the lowers that don't turn out right are kept seperate, and then marketed off as 80%
