Okay. So I'm buying this Les Baer BCG but I can't find specs on it ANYWHERE!!!
I keep getting told to go with a BCM, RRA or spikes BCG but I can't ever find them in stock so I'm buying this one...
But I can not find specs on it for the life of me, I was hoping y'all knew something about it..
It's not on their website and other online retailers have zero information about it...

It's the national match BCG by Les Baer in chrome..
What steel is used? MPI tested? Etc.
Thanks for the help...

Emailed over a week ago...no response yet.
And I called this morning but it just rang

But what is everything I should e looking for in a good BCG?

What steel do is ideal?
MPI tested is important, yeah?
What else should I be asking or looking for in a BCG?

Read the specs at BCM (link below). This is what you should want. It's obvious they aren't ashamed of their BCG. When a vendor doesn't share their specs I tend to believe they're hiding something. Can't say about LB, but I'm not buying their ARs!

Check Rainier and G&R Tactical, they sell BCM too.

Well it appears to be a LBR standard M16 BCG , chromed , unstaked gas key , chrome lined with a mil spec 8620 or 158 bolt . Manufactured by Young Manufacturing .
MPI or HPT tested ? Nothing that says they do so so Im guessing probably not . Im not real keen on the non staked gas key but again its not my money ,
In all honesty I would have bought one of the BCM or PSA mil spec BCG , Im not a fan of chrome , I dont like bling , I like all my rifle black and I guess Im just boring

This is exactly what I'm thinking. The Baer will probably be just fine. But you might be paying for bling and neglecting the critical features of a good BCG. For the last few weeks it's been easy enough to find a C158 M16 for like $150. Here's one now.

Cerakote (Microslick) is the only 'fancy finish' I really like on a BCG.

Unstaked gas key? That's horrible!
That's pretty much friggin important on a BCG correct? What issues might I run into without a staked gas key? Can I GET it staked?
What should I be concerned about if its not staked?

purehavoc 07-08-2013 08:42 PM

They use a permatex under the key to seal it up , what issues could happen? , well if it comes loose or leaks it may not cycle , if it comes loose enough plan on purchasing a new gas key , gas tube and possibly a new upper ; No big deal really, its just money :D
yes you could have it staked, I would just do it myself but Im smart enough to buy the BCM or PSA thats already good to go ;)
