I bought a rifle kit from palmetto state armory and a spikes tactical stripped lower and i have $750 in it and a nice rifle. Just something to think about. It took me 45 minutes to put together and i have never worked on guns before.

Use this time to your advantage, do lots of research. A lot of research. Reread the Primer and get your specs solid in your mind. Look for other sources of information. Don't buy the first piece of crap that turns up in stock.

If you're sure you want to build then jump on quality parts on your list that turns up in stock. BCM and others have email notification when parts get back in stock, so sign up for them. Last time I checked BCM had lots of uppers and BCGs in stock.

Look for a stripped lower locally and get one if you like the rollmark. Be patient, all good things take time.

The biggest issue with assembling an AR isn't so much getting the parts together right - it's getting the right parts together. You'll remember the quality of a gun long after you forget how much you paid for it.

I'm also new to the AR-15 arena. I have a project in mind that really interests me. I want to AR-15's. One of which will be a Colt LE6920 Socom. The other will be one that I build from scratch. Then see how they stack up against eachother. Should be interesting to see the outcome.

I just kept checking palmetto state and eventually they came in stock. Im not saying this is the rifle for you, I just giving my example of what I did. It saves me quite a bit putting it together instead buying a complete. Was a lot easier than I thought it would be too

Then here ya go. $693.45 if you use the FT discount code and free shipping , almost the same gun with same rear sight no optics . just doesnt have the Hammered barrel
http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Palmetto_State_Armory_AR15_ORC_16_Chrome_Lined_5_p/gun-psam4-cl1.htm

If I was looking to spend $1000 I would save up another few weeks or month or just lay off the morning coffees, snacks or what ever and buy the first one I listed , your talking $15 for shipping and if your FFL charges any more than $25 find someone else to ship it to . Thats $39 over your budget and that crazy deal wont last forever and you will not find a cheaper, better deal for what you get . Your going to pay that much in tax alone shopping locally and it wont be that kind of deal
Spend wisely and have no regrets
