Default AR15/M16 night sights

Anyone know anything about he use of night sights on the AR15/M16 rifle. Do you have a favorite brand, do you use front and back or just front. Also do replacement AR15 back sights fit a Vietnam era M16 back sight. I am concerned with the width of the back sight. The two hole back sights are the same size and I do not like it for night shooting. I would like to put on updated rear sights so I have the large aperture and the small aperture. Any ideas would be welcome.

If there is a thread started on this let me know where to look, Thanks bigguns911.

We always used the 0-300 aperture and tracers in the Army.

tracers might not work for what I need the rifle for, but thanks for the idea.

I've got the XS 24/7 Tritium Stripe front sight on mine. It's thinner than some other AR front night sights so it doesn't obscure the target at longer ranges. It provides an absolute co-witness with my ARMS-40 BUIS & Eotech 552. Even though I mainly use my optic, it's also nice in low light conditions to keep track of your muzzle direction.

I use the XS Sights 24/7 on my AR, but I prefer the large dot front sight. For the rear, I installed the tritium "same plane" battle sights. That sight has two smaller tritium dots that give a horizontal reference point for proper sight alignment in darkness. They work very well.

I used a Trijicon front sight only. If you are trying to get accurate sighted fire in dim enough light that you need a tritium rear sight, the target should be illuminated. I don't think you'll find two dots on either side of the aperture on the rear sight overly helpful since it's fairly easy to find the front in the rear sight aperture if the front sight is tritium. Just my experience.
