Default AR15 definitions, parts etc...

So perhaps I'm getting analysis paralysis but the more I read the more I feel like a noob. I thought I would start a thread about parts, their definitions.

Are you listing the parts or looking for others to do it?

I hope you're joking as your smiley indicates. Sadly there are too many lazy noobs who don't put in the research and end up building what someone else would build for himself not what the new person wants. (Not singling you out, just generalizing but you see a lot of crap first ARs so don't be that guy!)

Don't forget to read the build stickys and Agent Tikki's AR Primer.

Yes read Agent Tikki's primer, but don't leave any gratuitous comments, his head's already big enough as it is.......

I don't think I'm lazy... Actually I'm doing a lot of reading, not ready to start doing any buying for a month or two. Budget wise, taking longer and spreading out the purchase works better for me. I think I want a good solid basic build, the gizmos can come later. As far as I can tell the only parts I can't go cheap on is the barrel, trigger and bolt. I also want to build my own knowing I'm a noob and I want to know my weapon. I think I have a fair grasp, but I can always use some input. Any suggestions for a stripped lower?

BTW, I heard Bill Ayers actually wrote Tikki's Primer.
