Shot placement is always a factor regardless of caliber. Doesnt matter if its a rubber band gun or naval guns. Just ask the 2 or 3 survivors of the hms hood what they think of shot placement...

Anyway the only ar out there you can use 308win and 556 on the same lower is the colt le901

OOPOSSOM,

Jon and the guys are correct regarding the 7.62X51 or 308 ARs are totally different than the 5.56/223 ARs. Everything is larger. Receivers, Bolts, Magazine Well and all.
And I think JJ just made a type O. Rock River offers the LAR 8 in 308, 243 and 7mm-08 not 7mm Mag.
I have their AR-15 Rifles and also a Rock River LAR-8 Mid-Length A-4 in 16 inch. It is a shooter. In fact I used it on an Outdoor Channel Show to shoot an 8 Point Buck with Hornady 150 Gr. 308 and it worked great. It was a 100 yard shot. And dropped the Deer. DRT!
Good luck on your selection. But most all the 308s are fine rifles. Haven't heard anything negative about them no matter what name brand rifle they have been. I like the Rock River especially for the 2 Stage NM Trigger and the non proprietary magazine. Since they use FN-LAR Inch or Metric mags that can be purchased at most any gun show at a reasonable price. My good friend has a DPMS and he likes it while another has an Armalite.

On the AR-15 platform, the 6.8 SPC is an excellent round for deer and hogs at mid-range distances, out to about 350 yards.

I don't think there is any round that will turn a bad shot into a good one.....

OK....I'll rephrase.

I don't think there is any round that I can afford that will turn a bad shot into a good one!

I have two uppers for my AR-15. A 223 Wylde and a .50 ccal Beowulf. I personally have put a 3/4" hole in an old steel car rim with the Beowulf, and the manufacturer claims that one of the 400 grain rounds can pass through 34" of balistics gel at fifty yards. It is a fun cartidge to shoot, and I would feel confident that I could take on anything native to North America with it. The only downfall is ammunition supply, it can be tough to find in stock. I going to start reloading mine.

This is 3 5.56 holes and 2 .50 cal Beowulf holes
