ar10-6.8-.300???

Any suggestions on which is most preferable? I.e. ammo availability, price, durability, and reliability?

6.8 SPC is a .223 length round designd for the AR-15 platform. Which .300? .300 Whisper, Blackout, WinMag? The first two are AR-15 length rounds. The last is too long for the AR-10.

AR-10? .308/7.62 X 51

First what's the use of the rifle? REALLY need alot more information.

What are you planning on shooting?

At what distances do you plan to shoot?

I have seen a few rifles under the ar platform that are chambered for the .300 blackout? Is the 6.8 more equivalent to a .308 round or a.223?

I would like to use it for range/game. Basically wondering which round is most powerful/accurate and just curious if anyone owns some these and how they like them.

6.8spc: Good round, but struggling to remain relevant due to the emergence of 300blk. This is a pretty expensive round to shoot. And while I like it, 300blk seems a lot more practical, versatile, and easier on the wallet. This is almost exclusively a so-called "assault rifle" round...so any future bans (however unlikely) could make supporting parts and ammo extremely scarce.

300blk: I like the versatility of this round. Supersonic, it can be quite similar to 7.62x39 (AK47) while requiring minimal alterations within the AR platform. And if you've got a forgiving bank account, it boasts tremendous supression potential. Again, primarily an "assault rifle" round, but the .223/5.56 its built around will always be a staple caliber. So a savvy reloader can find sustenance, regardless of pending legislation.

308win/AR-10: Great round, versatile round, and (unlike the above two), it's not going anywhere regardless of bans/controls/etc. 308 is a critical NATO, bolt, lever, and semiauto round that will almost always be available at fair prices. There is very little downside to this caliber choice in my opinion.

As much as I like it, I'll probably never own a 6.8spc. I will probably add a 300blk upper shortly. And I will always own a 308win (or three). Take that for whatever it's worth.

The 6.8 SPC was designed as a happy medium between the .223(5.56) & .308(7.62). the 6.8 gives you a better effective range than the 5.56. At 500 yds the 6.8 has 2.86x the energy that the 5.56 has.

Ya, they have this model at a nearby gun shop. one of the reasons I posted this, to find out which is the best heavier caliber ar platform rifle.
