Fcross...
You hit it exactly on the head... what I was referring to as " Doesn't feel right". The vert. grip tires out my hand and I started doing the "mag-well" thing
in the service, but only butting the pinky finger side of my palm up to the mag well. In doing this with the (AR style) .308, I have come up
with the situation you referred to as "over-sway" I believe. That is what I'm trying to get away from, you hit it right on the head.
Now, the hand-stop you posted to @ Larue's web site, although looks like a great idea for the red-dot "angle" sight, I may just go
ahead and get the angled grip, as it will help with the way I would be shooting with the scope or carrying it.

I'd search this site for info on it first. For the money you could get yourself a new optic, back up sights, and some ammo.
