OK I know Kel-Tec makes a weapon that looks kinda like an AR with no stock.... So I was wondering if anyone maybe makes a plug or something you could use on a standard lower?
Now This is just kinda my mind wandering into things I cant afford to do but my curiosity got me on this.... __________________ Change is not a destination, just as hope is not a strategy. - Rudy Giuliani

You can build one out of any lower, provided they are legal in your area. Here in Washington they are considered "pistols" and all you need is a thread on buffer tube, which is usually encased inside the stock. You thread the buffer tube in the same way and it hangs out the end of the lower, just above the handle.
For instance, Olympic Arms makes, or made, a model called the k23p.

Moron moves like this one are what's getting .223 ammo listed as 'Handgun Ammunition' around here.
Just what we need, more regulation on 'Handgun' ammunition.
-------------------------
Now, the actual 'Pistol' versions don't have a recoil tube and buffer/spring sticking out the back,
They use a much shorter tube and the bolt spring is either mounted in the upper receiver it's self or is in a housing running along the top of the barrel.
Short recoil tube version build page,

Here is an example of the No Tube pistol version,
And another No Tube version,

Take something like this, which is useless in it's current configuration,
Add a shoulder sling ring and an 'Aimpoint' so you can actually pick a target, and it becomes a pretty effective close combat weapon that doesn't over penetrate.
I had my class 3 set up that way for a while, but I've gone back to a CAR stock and vertical fore grip to make it more effective in CQB situations. Last edited by AR Hammer; 10-10-2008 at 03:31 AM. |

well I was thinking that if you could have MP5 Size with the 223 caliber that you could have a really nice room clearing platform, and unlike an mp5 you can make it yourself.... __________________ Change is not a destination, just as hope is not a strategy. - Rudy Giuliani

I live in Indiana, why do you ask?
---------------------
It works good for an 'Entry' weapon, since the .223 won't over penetrate like a 9mm or .40 Cal will in a home with Dry wall or plaster.
1/2" drywall will fragment a hyper velocity .223 round, especially if you are using hollow points or frangible rounds,
Where a 147 Grain 9mm round moving at 1,000 FPS will penetrate several layers of drywall and even punch holes in the old hard plaster walls.
The .40 Cal. MP-5 will punch through a BUNCH of paster and about 1/3 again as many sheets of dry wall as the 9mm will. |

Something else you need to keep in mind is,
Since this is sold as a 'Pistol',
That under current BATFE rules, adding a shoulder stock to this makes it a Short Barrel Rifle, and that requires registration and a tax stamp. (Same as an automatic weapon)
Adding a vertical fore end grip makes it a BATFE regulated weapon, and you will have to get the tax stamp and register it just like a machine gun...
Save your self some grief and just register it to start with so you can do anything you want to with it... |
