Chris, I don't see any problem with a $60 lower. DSA is a reputable company with a good name in the FAL world. If I was building another right now, I wouldn't hesitate to use a DSA lower. Or even this one through AIM Surplus.

And if you look closer at the Del-Ton kits, you can option them out. If you want to do the whole build under $750, then you can't really get too picky about brand names.

Or check out this complete rifle for $679.95! Already has some good stuff on it. Really not a bad deal here.

The one place I'd "splurge" a little if reliability is a top priority would be on a high quality bolt and carrier. It is responsible for the loading, chambering, extraction, and takes the brunt of the pressure and forces when firing. In short its the heart of your rifle
Something like this at $139.95 is a bargain for a little piece of mind, IMO

I like to buy a $60.00 lower without having to pay shipping and the $35.00 for the use of the FFL. I just can't buy them off the shelf for that price.

I guess I'm pretty spoiled, my local guy sells anything at cost + $10. He'd likely order in 10 of them and split up the shipping across all of them, then make his $10 over that. Pay the gubmint their pound of flesh and still out the door under $80.

Default Wrong gas block?

I just noticed that the DSA upper suggested at the top of the thread included a standard A2 gas block with that standard sight. And then a suggestion of a MBUS for the front.

I'd love to get the Magpul sights for my summer build, but wouldn't that require a 2-rail gas block? At least with a 2-rail gas block, one could put on a Magpul Back-Up Sight and have room for a future addition of a bipod.

Am I missing something? I just want to know if an upper should have a different gas block than shown on the DSA, if one wants to use the MBUS system.

The only thing your missing is that Magpul says that their MBUS front sight is not to be mounted on a gasblock rail http://store.magpul.com/downloads/MBUS%205x7_090514_Update.pdf . I guess "Slo" assumes that you will get a quad rail.
