Which Ar?

The LGS had a whole bunch of Ar's today. They ranged in price from right around $1000 to $1600 for a Daniels Defense. There was a used Colt LE6940, that is actually the shop owner's. Looks pretty lightly used, w/at least one 30 rd P-mag, $1325. Also some Bushmasters for just above $1000, new, or some base-model Colts, new, for about $1250. Any opinions on which one you'd take?

Some decent options, id be happy with any of them. I was a a local shop with my nephew who's looking for an AR. all they had was a Stag Model 2 ($1,600) and a Rock River carbine length with plastic hand guards ($2,200). I was in shock over the prices they were asking for such basic ARs.

Colts and DD are some good options. Base models or not you can always build them up to what you need, you know the foundation is solid.

Yeah, but the base model ones were plain looking, and they still cost slightly over a grand. So, not too many parts and you're up to the cost of one of the others......To be honest, I think I'd like a Colt LE6920. If available.....they didn't have one.

Almost any new DD for 1600 is a steal in todays market

The DD may have been used. I didn't look too close because it was $1600..

If you can get a Colt 6940 for less than $1500 grab it.

The LE6920 and LE 6940 from Colt is as good as it goods.

I just purchased a DD V7 for $1800 from a "local" store which was at least $600 less than the local gun show prices, which are typically lower than the retail stores in my neck of the woods. And "local" in Texas is anything within 150 miles.:) That was close enough to MSRP to get my money. Strange what constitutes a good deal these days.

Even used?

Here are my 2 concerns;

1. I read on another thread I am not a member of where most of the posts about the 6940 were negative. People were complaining about the rail being too short???? And, a special barrel wrench was needed to get the barrel off. So, what if you ever desired to change parts? How much of a hassle would it be?

2. More importantly, IF ammo availability returns, but at higher prices, I probably couldn't afford to shoot this gun. I see that currently, AR ammo, if you can find it, runs $1+ a round. Way too much. Waiting for availability to return isn't an issue, just the potential new price......

How does base model bushmaster compare to a base model colt or dd?
