Nikon and leupold make AR specific scopes for 300 or less.

You want a variable optic scope, or a red dot, holographic scope, or what?

nikon, and burris, also vortex. all make great to good scopes for well under 200 bucks. you might have to search a little bit.

i paid 90 for my 3x9x40 vortex. so far its worked good. fairly clear glass. slightly thick reticle.

i paid 150 for my nikon 3x9x40. its performed excellent, very clear glass and great reticle.

i want a burris next, just need to finish building the rifle first. hehe.

Nikon ProStaff will probably be a solid option in that range. Midway usually has them at very good pricing, and Amazon can be a great source as well.

Amazon usually has some great prices. And if you want to save even more, go on their online sight and fill out a visa card. You will get 30 to 50 dollars of credit just for the application. (I got 50 because of my good credit) . Then order the scope you want from Amazon and use your 30 to 50 dollar credit, saving you even more. And you can always destroy the card once you get it in the mail if you are approved.

Also once you put the sight on, your iron sights are about useless. (not a lot of room to raise the rear sight into position.) So you will have to either remove it before adding the scope, or by getting a good quality scope mount (I like Larue) you can quickly detach the scope for close quarters home protection kinda stuff.

mine with irons tucked in:

If you want a red dot I would suggest a Strykfire Vortex. About 185 and works better than many more expensive scopes I have tried out over the past month or so. Very little to no parallax. and none at all over 25 yes. IT also comes with a doubler that attaches that works very well. I am extremely happy with mine. 100% cowitness with my iron sights as well.
