A 3x9x40 is a great choice for seeing targets way out there. What I don't like about a 4x plus scope is they get to be useless for close range shots, as they need more distance to focus on. if you are in heavy woods or dense brush, a 3x9 is better, and something like a 1.75x whatever is even better. For open range shots, a 4x is great. But a 3x can do pretty much what a 4x can do, except for super far distances and you want to read the made in china stamp!

Here is my 3x9x40 on my AR:
Yep im getting the 3x9x40! It looks really good on your AR, I figured if I get the 3x power id still want more power so ill just get 9x40. Thanks!

A Nikon P 223 3-9x40, and the m223 mounts from Nikon.

Is it this one on Amazon?

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-P-223-3-9x40-Mate-BDC/dp/B006YVT0R8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1368995534&sr=8-2&keywords=p-223+nikon

if you aren't aware of this, Amazon will give you 'points' for signing up for a credit card with them. Depending on your credit, its usually 40 dollars worth of points just for signing up. They gave me 50 dollars for my credit. Once I bought my item, and used their 50 dollar 'discount' I rarely use the card any more. It's a great way to get your scope for a lot cheaper if you pay your bills on-line and don't wait a month to do so.

That's the one! I didn't know they do that sounds pretty good if you do a lot of Amazon shopping. I found it on Optics Planet for 169.00 on sale, the even had the mounts too, is it better to get the two connected scope rings or the two single rings? Does it make a difference?
