M&P sport was my first AR type firearm. It has given me ZERO issues for at least 1500-2000 rounds. Still as accurate as ever, still goes bang every time no matter what. If it end up being bothersome to you not having FA and dust cover then a stripped upper is very inexpensive. I think I paid 40 bucks for a brand new one, and another 20 bucks for the forward assist and dust cover.

Yes I wanted a Colt simply because it is the original by Eugene Stoner however I just could not justify nor afford the cost.

I like this S $ W because of the name, simplicity and of corse value. I know that it is missing the forward assist and the dust cover however with my experience even at war I never needed it. If I had the money I would get the Colt A-1. The one that I carried for many years. So here in a controlled enviroment I know I will never need those two options.

All or your responses are greatly appreciated.

honestly, i don't think the lack of those two options are going to make the rifle any less reliable. my Bushmaster M4 Carbine has both, and very seldom do i ever use the dust cover, and have never used the FA.

i think you'll be plenty pleased with the S&W.

Actually, OP, the Armalite Company made the first AR-15s.

Due to a lot of political infielding, Colt got the military manufacturing

contract for the re-badged M-16, during the Vietnam "Police Action".(War)

That said, I love my Colt AR, but I have no experience with other

brands. You also might not like the A2 style, carry handle, no scope,

heavy barrel, etc. I find mine monstrously accurate, and the

bull barrel just stays on target, mag after mag. I would guess it's a bit

heavy, if you're not a big guy, however.
