Don't think you're going to save money assembling your own, most likely you won't. The first one will cost more after purchasing the tools you'll need.

Purchase a upper from Ammunition, Magazines, Rifle Parts, Bulk Ammo and Rifle Accessories – Palmetto State Armory and one of their lowers then get one of their lower part kits. Even better get one of their rifle build kits and their lowers.

It'll be a sad day to see a 1911 find another home but, sounds like a good deal. Just as long as you tuck her tonight and tell her you'll miss her. And as long as you buy another 1911.....

I have a bunch of handguns......and yet I do not have the one gun I really want...a 1911 variant. I was looking at an entry level Kimber that seemed reasonably priced at $900 or so.

When I read your post xdm11chad, about trading that Springfield, my first thought was ....don't do it.

I am so glad you didn't. I'll bet that pistol is a loyal friend. Looks like a beauty in your avatar.

Your first build should be a stripped lower with a complete upper.

Buy quality parts and you will be much happier with the build outcome.

I like the RRA uppers.

Rock River Arms: CAR Upper Half

or kit;

Rock River Arms: .223/5.56mm CAR A4 Kits

And I'm a big believer in billet lowers;

Rainier Arms, LLC™ | Mega Billet Lower - GTR-3H

This is the lower I used for my first build. Rainier Arms is a good source for quality parts.
