Ar 15 anyone deerhunting with one
I know what would happen if I rook one of my Ar 15 out to my deer camp ! I would be laughed out of the camp yes the 223 is a little small for an190 pound deer but big enough for a 200 pound man!? ? Even if I took my 308 they would laugh at me.. Would you guys get the same reaction? I it it ain't a bolt

Nope. Round these parts we don't care so much about what kind of gun other people are using. Seen many hunters with SKS's take very nice bucks. Hunters with bone stock Mosin Nagant's aren't uncommon.
Take the rifle your comfortable with. When ya come back to camp with a deer, they will quit making fun of ya.

I think the difference is that a deer is an animal that has no intentions of harming you and needs to be harvested as humanely as possible as opposed to a self-defense scenario where someone is trying to do you harm and you're doing what you have to in order to protect yourself. Nobody cares much about the suffering of someone intent on hurting or killing you as opposed to a deer that's not doing anything to you.

Nothing wrong with hunting with an AR, but .223 is questionable in my opinion. Slap a larger caliber upper on and you'll be better suited. My old man just bought a Remington R-15 in .30AR to use this year.

I am shooting my Oly Arms .243 WSSM for mule deer this year.. it loves those 90 gr. Accubonds..... Besides, it is heavy enough to get my shoulder ready to pack my Elk rifle..

I hope I get to take a deer with my 6.8 spc this year. Got it dialed in with Hornady 120 grain SST's at the range Monday.

They would laugh at a 308?? What the hell are these guys using on deer that a 308 is laughably small?

If you can humanly and quickly kill the deer with a 223 then go for it.

Good choice with the SST. I've been using them exclusively on all my rifles and even my muzzleloader. They are devastating.

Hey if you can shoot then use a .223. I used to do all my deer hunting with a Christensen Arms .22-250. Now I use my Colt AR le6940 because I can go straight from deer hunting to varmint hunting at night by attaching a few night components. The point is that I shot the deer right behind the ear, they can't run if you sever their brainstem/spinal cord and there isn't any suffering either. So if you can shoot carry whatever you want as long as it is legal. Don't listen to those yahoos at your deer camp.

I used a .223 when I first started hunting with my dad at 6 years old. All my siblings learned off that gun. Right placement of the shot means less tracking. Since then we've all gotten our own guns in bigger calibers. That being said, I am getting an AR in .223 next week. After I play with it a few 100 rounds you better believe I'll be knocking down deer with that thing!
