Can a 762x39 fire a 556 round?

kryptar19 03-22-2013 02:00 AM

In a word....NO

and in two words...HELL NO

plz DO NOT try it, something catastrophic could happen.
At the very least you would have a live 5.56 round stuck in your 7.62x39 barrel.

This will not auger well for you.

No 7.62x39 is 30 caliber. 5.56 is 22 caliber + the cases are different sizes

Understand that the chamber of any centerfire rifle that uses a bottle necked cartridge is cut to dimensions meant for an individual chambering only. the chamber has to provide support for the brass cartridge at all points to keep the brass from bursting when the cartridge is fired.

Also the bore must make contact with the bullet to send it in the right direction and keep the projectile from skipping down the bore and doing damage to it. Or if the bore was too tight it could cause severe overpressure that would actually cause the barrel to burst.

Now if you bought a AR15 chambered in 7.62x39 and bought a 5.56 upper half, then you could shoot 5.56 when that upper was installed, and 7.62x39 when that upper was installed.

No. Below are (left to right) a 7.62x39, a Russian 5.45x39, and a 5.56x45. The second set of numbers is the case length in mm.

Just an FYI -- most if not all modern firearms have what they are chambered for on the barrel. ONLY USE THE CALIBER THE FIREARM WAS DESIGNED FOR

K thanks I don't know why someone at cabelas would say that but I kinda thought it was B.S.
