I am looking for an ar15 that won't break the bank, is s&w a good one?

Welcome to the FTF community, please stop by the Introduction section when you get a chance.

This link should help with your research on S&W M&P Ar's.

Yes. S&W makes a good firearm and their barrels are Melonite QPQ treated which makes them better than most out there...even Colts.

I'm not really up on melonite. Is that subjective or has it been proven through some sort of testing?

Lots of advantages of FNC'ing your barrel versus chroming it. Not to many disadvantages. The main being its definitely harder to find.

I have a s&w m&p15. You would take my house before you take it from me. Thousands of rounds through it. Never ever had one single mow function at all with any ammo. With the exception of 1 kind of lacquer coated steel. They got stuck when I racked it. I sent the gun in and they said it is fine it is the ammo. I took it to gun shop around the corner they checked it right there in front of me it was fine. They said its the ammo. I've never bin one to blame something on the ammo I fill like my gun should eat what I feed it. But I just thought about it today and even checked the ammo mabey a hr ago. The lacquer was applied to thick to this batch of ammo causing the round to be to have a thicker diameter which was to big is all it was. other than a screw up at the ammo plant never ever had any problem.

Oh and another thing the other day me and my wife went to the range. She has shot my .380 and my .22. And onley shot them once so she has virtually no experience shooting. At 100 yards she put 30 rounds in a 10in circle free handed firing all 30 in about a minute. Either she is a delta force sniper and won't tell me or that's a very accurate gun.

Send me the ammunition. I have a hypothesis I'd like to test.
