I have a Panther AR-15 and on the receiver it has .223/5.56, does this mean I can shoot both from it? The manual doesn't specify, I've only shot .223 from it and have heard if it's chambered for .223 then you couldn't shoot 5.56 from it, any help would be appreciated.

I thought so but didn't want to risk injury or damage to my firearm, I figured the manual would make sure to specify something so important. Thanks for the reply Jon.

So is true that the 5.56 is a little bit higher power round than the .223?

The primary difference between .223 Remington and 5.56 x 45 mm is that .223 is loaded to lower pressures and velocities compared to 5.56 mm. .223 Remington ammunition can be safely fired in a 5.56 mm chambered gun, but the reverse can be an unsafe combination.

It really doesn't matter what is marked on your receiver with an AR-15, since you can swap uppers out to many calibers. What really matters is what is stamped on the barrel, since that's where the chamber is. I've seen guys shoot 5.56 in DPMS match rifles that have .223 chambered barrels. Usually nothing dangerous happens, Just popped primers, getting hung up in the works and causing jams. DPMS makes barrels with either chamber, so check the barrel to be sure.

Is there a specific area on the barrel? I've never seen any markings like that on it, not sure where to look.
