| American Dragunov SVD
ive got a thing for soviet firearms of late especially the concept of an easy to use fast minute of bad guy designated marksman rifle concept that the svd/psl/mosin sniper filled for com-bloc doctrine. as shown in iraq it can be damn effective in the hands of imbeciles.
since i cant get my hands on a real svd for anything resembling a realistic price and i got a psl on the way i want to start planning out an american style version of the dragunov concept.
it will be based around the trijicon TA648-308 green reticle acog and a 20" barreled 308 AR10 with piston. but needs to stay under 12 pounds.
while i know what im doing building standard type arr15's and varients i dont know a damn thing about piston driven 308 nato ar10's.
my main question is who makes a superb rifle length piston driven upper as bayonet lug is needed as well.
other comments welcome as well. im not 100% on all the specs so its open to debate. but i do want to use the 6x48 acog as its got a fast range finding day/night reticle that closely follows the posp scope concept. __________________ "Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound." I have no idea but as of late I've noticed Adam Arms showing up on some rifles as an add on.
I believe LWRC makes a rifle length piston for their REPR. __________________ The bitterness of poor quality Lingers long after The sweetness of low price is forgotten.

the repr looks pretty good but its got a few things im not liking. mainly the full length rail and it uses sr25 mags instead of widely available fal mags.
i think what im looking for is an adjustable gas piston system that fits under standard sized handguards. the reason for adjustable piston is it will be used with a suppressor. DI systems dont work all that great suppressed due to the extreme gas blowback of DI 308's with a suppressor.
18 inch barrels are acceptable as max range is 800ish meters.
im not opposed either to complete rifles
i would ideally like to use magpul accessories handguards prs stock grip. __________________ "Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound." That's gonna be a tall order to fill, in my opinion. What are you calling a "reasonable price"?
EDIT:
And I'm only curious...as I have no clue. So I'm just picking ya'lls brains to learn a little. The piston under standard guards has me intrigued, I'll admit. __________________ "Life's tough. It's tougher if you're stupid." -- John Wayne Last edited by Chandler51; 01-06-2012 at 01:58 AM. |

real dragunovs sell for 7-10k$ and up depending on condition. so my goal is under 5000$ including optic extra mags accessories carry case etc. so the rifle needs to be in the 2-3k range preferably less of course
im prolly barking up a wrong tree with the handguard thing tho. never hurts to ask however __________________ "Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound." Man, I looked at that trij, and I wanna say it was like $3500...it's been awhile so they could be less now. They are badass tho. Good choice. __________________ "Life's tough. It's tougher if you're stupid." -- John Wayne |

Was outand about today and gota chance to see an acog first hand. Gander mountain had one of the red fiberoptic ones. Thatisone helluva optic. Crystal clear and the fiber optic looks exactly as if it was battery powered!! definately building around that one.
Was looking at other makers last nite after google searching the suggestions and larue makes a di rifle with adjustable gas port for suppressed modes. Going to research that one a bit more __________________ "Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."
