I'm fond of the Eotech for all the reasons Dillinger stated. I have the 512.A65 also and love the way it matches up to my iron sights now that I added the needed riser to put everything in line. The ACOG and the Eotech are for very different shooting styles.
I'd prefer the ACOG for anything past 100 meters, and the Eotech for 100 meters or less.

I run the eotech 516 with the (2) 123 batteries. The batteries are rated at 1100 hours. The eotech has an automatic 8 hour shut off. The 516 has a 7mm raised base which gives perfect lower 1/3 co-witness with fixed front sights. The acogs are awesome too, but I have found the sight picture is much smaller and (for me) slower target acquesition. The 516 will run you $450 and less...the acog is alot more! Probably can't go wron with either, just depends what you intend to use them for.

Isn't the Primary Illumination of the ACOG via the the Strip Of Fiber Optic on the top?

Dave, for a general SHTF carbine either will do. But the fact that the Eo is not magnified will make it faster. Shoot with both eyes open and let the dot superimpose onto the target.
Frankly, though, I'd sell both and buy the Aimpoint that JCA1 is selling. It is $425 shipped and includes a LaRue mount. The Ap is bombproof, and batteries last for years of constant use (65,000 hours is almost 7.5 years).
Out to 300 yards a good red dot is plenty good, especially on a human sized target. If you want to stretch out to 600+ the ACOG is a better choice.

used an AGOC for 4 years in the corps, beautiful sight but probably WAAAAY overkill for your uses, 4x magnification makes co-witness rather difficult (ive never seen one successfully co-witnessed) so unless that ACOG is about 400 bucks (not bloody likely unless its not a trijicon in which case its just a knockoff) then you are PROBABLY better off with the EOtech.. but the ACOG's im familier with have a ballistic drop compensator retical which is REAL handy for ranges 400 yards and greater (my last year i qualified with an M16a4 and an ACOG, great results at the 500 yard line)

As an owner of an EoTech XPS and an Aimpoint H1 and having used Aimpoints and Acogs in the military Id go with an Aimpoint H1 or Comp C3.
I have no affiliation w/ Primary Arms but this is the cheapest price I have found. Aimpoint Comp C3 - 2MOA

Don't take this the wrong way, but EOTechs suck. I saw too many of them die overseas, and on the range. Run Aimpoint if you want a fast 1x optic.

This is just me but if I had the money I would get the aim point m68. Built tough, and battery life is amazing. The 4 years I carried one on my m4 I changed the battery once, and that was when I first got the thing and thought I should change it just cause lol. It never failed me and it got beat up alot. just my 2 cents
