Yes you can! If you purchase a complete 7.62X39 AR Upper. It will fit on most all AR Lowers for the 5.56. Including your DPMS. You will also need magazines. BUY GOOD ONES! The folks here on the FTF that have built one can tell you which Magazines are the best and the ones that work! Some out there just do not work reliably!

I think the OP was asking if it were legal not possible, to put a 7.62 upper on a lower that is marked 5.56

I have been told that it only really matters on pistols and sbr set ups. But I honestly don't know the law on that.

Thanks I appreciate the info. I got another question I have heard that steel casing shells break the extractor they didn't say how many rounds they put through it though I'm going to use mine for coyote and hogs ain't going to be putting maybe 20 to 30 rounds through it at time do I need to upgrade the extractor

I have heard about the extractor thing, I had a S&W M&P15R in 5.45x39 and I put a lil over 8k rounds threw it, never replaced any thing but the buffer and spring.

And I ended up using and extra power hammer spring due to the hard primers of the comie ammo.

So that 8,000 rounds on that bolt carrier group with out any issues at all. I can't see why 7.62x39 would be any different, there both steel case ammo

Legally, it doesn't matter what caliber your lower is marked with, SBR or not, you can put any upper you want on it.

I have a pre-ban Colt Sporter in 7.62x39. I have run limited amounts of steel case thru it with no issues. Like you said, I wouldn't worry about it 'till some thing breaks.

The latest C Products 30 round mags are the ones to get. I think the ones out now are 3rd or 4th generation, & they are finally reliable.
