Default 6.5 barrel, light or heavy?

I am about to start ordering parts for my 6.5 Grendel build. I just want to know personal opinions about light and heavy barrels, and which one seems to be more beneficial. I know the heavy will reduce some of the recoil, but outside of that, I don't know.

I am going to order one of Alexander Arms production barrels. I don't see the need for me to invest in a Shilen barrel or something of that caliber. The gun will be used for mainly for pasture fun with the occasional hog or coyote hunt.

No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave.

I have a Sabre Defence 18" Light Varmint/Competition barrel on my 6.5 Grendel. It has a 1-7.5 Twist Barrel and is exceptionally accurate. I have shot deer with the heavier grain bullets but normally shoot Hornady 95 Gr. V-Max out of it on pigs, coyotes, bobcats and similar game. It is not a heavy varmint barrel of the .90 or 1.0 + inch barrel diameter range but it is not a skinny barrel either. There are several good barrel makers out there for the 6.5. Excellent choice and especialy if you are going to reload your own. They are easy to load.
They will literaly turn a prarie dog inside out at 400 yards!

Bench or fielding it?

If you're hunting out in the field with it. Light, but don't expect to shoot a lot of rounds before your groups will start to open up.

1000 yards? Heavy barrel 24", leave it on the bench kuz it ain't gonna be much fun to hump around.

Ar15performance.com has a 18" .264 LBC (6.5 Grendel variant) for a very reasonable price plus you can have it melonited.

Black hole weaponry also makes a variety of barrels that you can have totally customized right down to size of the gas port. Custom fluting and finishes. They have a stellar rep for service and quality. Only bad thing is you have to wait up to 2 months.
