5.45 uppers
Spikes and smith both make them anyone have any experience with them? I saw some pics online with guys having corrosion problems

That is the issue, corrosive ammo. I just dump boiling water down the bore, gas tube, on the piston and bolt of mt AK and clean as usual. An AR would be a PITA.

Yea 600 bucks is the price of an ak anyway.

Unless you were using it as a training aide to save a little on ammunition. But then again I'm not up on the coat of that ammunition. Besides .22 dedicated ARs are readily available and cheap as is the ammunition.

I was considering the spikes for high round count shooting as the ammo is only 130 bucks for 1080 with similar ballistics to the 5.56. But I think il stick with my original BCM plan

Who knows the 5.45 ammo might dry up in the current state of affairs

I would never consider corrosive ammo a problem. You just clean your weapon slightly differently.

What your D.I. said in boot camp is still true.

And depending on how future history unfolds, 5.45 just might be the second most readily available ammo on the battlefield.
