.308 upper
Thinking of getting a .308 upper for my AR.
I won't to be able to go from 5.56 to a highly accurate .308 capable of making shots at around 600 yards. Just wondering if anyone has recommendation on what upper, barrel, BCG , and trigger combination I should use as long as its a reasonable price.

I dont believe the 308 upper will fit the AR15 lower. They are usually on an AR10.

JTJ is correct. You need either a .30 wildcat for the AR-15 or you need an AR-10 for .308

lbwar15 10-25-2012 11:21 PM

Well that sucks. I'm trying to cover every need with just a few guns. I don't wont to have to back pack 30 guns if shtf.

600 yards is about the end of business with a .308 anyways, and that is a moon shot. You would need to add a 20 MOA rail to you upper to be able to crank you scope's elevation enough to get there.

Do you want stopping power, or range? I can get you one, or the other in an AR-15, but both is going to be a bit of a stretch (pun intended)

6.5 Grendel would probably meet most of your needs, but you will have to reload to make it cost effective.

I think I'm just going to have to get a nother gun. I won't something with stoping power that can reach out

lbwar15 10-25-2012 11:50 PM

I thank I'm just going to have to get another gun. I won't range and power plus readily available ammo. I know its a lot to ask for. I have a Winchester 70 in 30-06 but I don't fell like it is enuf.

Define stopping power.

The Grendel will throw a 130gr bullet at about 2750fps and is supersonic out to 1200 yards.

That would def work. But the problem is its not easy to come by with out reloading. Which may not be an option.

Dillinger is correct. They do have a 300 Blackout upper but not good for long distance. However as JD advised the 6.5 Grendel is one fine round and has a lot of range capabilities. It will turn a prairie dog inside out at 400 yards. And some have been shooting it at 1000. Hornady is also now making brass for it and I would assume ammunition is not far behind if the demand continues. I did use Lapua brass but you sure do not want to lose any of them when shooting. Some say the casings can be reloaded about 4-5 times. I will tell you they are very easy to load also and have a good range of bullets for them. There are a few on the Internet that offer 6.5 Grendel ammunition. But as stated the 308 upper will not fit on your AR-15 Receiver. Good Luck with your choice.
This is a Sabre Defence 18" 6.5 Grendel.
