when it was first developed i believe it had 2 variations. one being newly designed, the second being the updated or revised.. i think current production is mostly all the revised. as for me ive had no problems. even found some hornady ammo at the lgs for a fair price... as with all cartridges though reloading will help. ive only shot to 100yrds so far but like i said, im loving it!

All of the 6.8 offerings 300blk 458 50beo etc pretty much means you need to handload if you want ammunition.

I have a 458socom. Great round ballistically identical to 45-70 loads.

I havent found a good enough reason to opt for the others. If i want hard hitting i use the socom or upgun to the 308.

The spc is the only one of the smaller four i would consider.

There is like 14 different 6.5 rounds that come to mind . I believe all are specific to their own chamber .
While the 6.5 Grendel is a good cartridge its still no comparison to the .308

I have a 6.8 spc ar it is a fun gun and never had any issues with it. At my units reunion I was blasting clay pigeons at 150 yards with it with no problem

i know... I changed scope mounts on mine and my wifes rifles.. went to zero it again... off hand at 25 all 10 shots in the black.. I was thrilled. lol...

im looking forward to hitting 200yds this summer.. perhaps farther if I get the time. i'll be sure to post my results..

OP, my advice if your looking for more bang out of a standard ar go with the 6.8spc.

I don't doubt that for a second. Many of RRA's products are notoriously heavy...and not just by a little bit...they're often heavy to the tune of being 50% overweight. I guess that makes them 'obese'. That's one reason I don't generally deal with them. The other being my own experience where they basically pulled a 'bait and switch' on one of my purchases and displayed alarmingly poor integrity and customer service.

All that said, RRA makes generally good products. And light or heavy riflles can each work to your benefit, depending on the application (stationary vs mobile).

I had some Tactical Elite Delta Force Ninja Extreme RRA in the form of a 16" midlength. It was probably a great shooter (never shot it before I sold it). But the bare rifle weighed about 10lbs without optics or mag/ammo!!!...that sure seems like a lot when I can build a rifle with arguarbly superior parts that weighs in around 6.5lbs.

If light weight is not an issue, RRA is an excellent option. But if it is, they're not worth your consideration.
